Join Us

It would give us great pleasure to welcome you into our happy bunch of guys but of course we accept that our style of singing may not be to your taste;  equally, you may find that our chorus doesn’t suit your needs.   So, how do you find out?

You are most welcome to come along to our rehearsal evenings which are always open to the public.   We meet at 7.45 p.m. every Monday (except Bank Holidays) at New Hall School in Boreham, Chelmsford.   You can sit back and enjoy the singing and get to see the way we work.   If you are feeling really brave then you can even join in.

We don’t expect miracles but we are willing to bet you will enjoy the experience of harmonising along with a group of friendly guys who are singing their hearts out.   Probably the most important thing is that there is absolutely no way we will put you under pressure to join us.   Whether or not you do so is entirely your decision.   It is our view that somebody who has been ‘press-ganged’ in is of no use at all.

What’s that you say?   You can’t read music?   Neither can a lot of  barbershop singers and our chorus is no exception so you won’t be on your own there.   We can provide specially produced teach tapes and CDs to make the learning process as easy as possible and you will be given every help and encouragement in your quest to sing to a high standard.   We will also provide all the help you need to decide which part is for you (Tenor, Lead, Baritone, Bass).

Our repertoire consists of a wide selection of old and not so old songs, ranging from upbeat to romantic ballads – many of which are well known and have stayed popular over the years.

As well as all these week to week activities, members are also eligible to attend the annual British Association Of Barbershop Singers Harmony College (held over a weekend) where they can gain a lot of useful information and additional tuition in their chosen hobby.   The social life at this college is an added bonus and it is a great chance to meet other barbershoppers and make new friends from all over the country.

Well, that’s the story about us.   Still interested?   Give John Darwent, our Membership Secretary a call on 01277 654525 and he will be happy to answer any of your questions and, if you wish, arrange for you to come along to a rehearsal evening.

We promise you will be made most welcome!
